Breastfeeding - Losing Weight After Baby is Born

During pregnancy, it is normal to increase your weight by 10 to 12 kilograms.  Perhaps you have gained a little more weight than you may have liked, however, in which case you may be asking how many pounds can you safely lose after your pregnancy.  Follow the recommendations in this article to help you return to your original pre-pregnancy  weight after childbirth.

The best thing that you can do for both you and your baby is to start breastfeeding.  In addition to all the benefits to your newly born child, you will help yourself to lose weight.  Yes, it's true - if you choose to breastfeed, you will lose weight faster.  The reason for this is that  in order to produce breast milk, the adipose tissue of the mother is employed.  This is energy stored in the form of fat.  Therefore if you are at work or at home you can give your baby your breast and not only will you be giving him or her a meal, but you will be helping to use your lifetime fat store.

If possible, try not to have too much of a strict daily regime.  If you work in a small office where things can get extremely busy and you find yourself in stressful situations much of the time, you may risk getting yourself exhausted and not being able to produce a good supply of milk for your baby.

Try to take things easy.  Don't forget that if you relax you'll lose weight all the better.   Insomnia and the lack of rest bring with it the anxiety which can cause you to begin eating a lot.  Rest when your baby has a rest, to allow you to sleep better.

Don't skip meals.  Rather than eating just one huge meal during the day, take an average of 6 small meals of small or average portions.

Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. It is not true that children develop gas as a  result of you eating a lot of fibre in your own diet.

Consume skimmed milk products. It is important to consume calcium in your diet during pregancy, to replace that which your body draws from your bones to give to your baby.

Perform some post pregnancy exercises to tone your abdominal muscles. If time allows, take your child out in his or her baby buggy.  This will give your little one some healthy fresh air and will also allow you to lose weight faster and strengthen your muscles, which could be a little weak.

Drink lots of water, ideally more than two litres per day.  When you're breastfeeding, a significant component of the milk is water and you. Consequently you need to avoid dehydration from loosing  water which is consumed each time you breastfeed.
